Department Marketing Statement

Augusta University’s Department of Social Sciences and its CSWE accredited Bachelor of Social Work Program invite applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor beginning August 2021. We seek an individual to teach courses in the BSW program and implement an active research agenda in Social Work. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching including integrating service-learning projects into coursework, potential for excellence in research including writing and securing grants, and a potential interest in online instruction. This is a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor as determined by research/scholarly publication records and academic achievements.

Augusta University is a student-centered comprehensive research university and academic health center with over 9,000 students and 1,200 faculty members committed to providing leadership and excellence in teaching, discovery, clinical care, and service. The Department of Social Sciences includes over 350 majors in undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice; Health, Society, and Policy; Nonprofit Leadership and Administration; Political Science; Sociology; and Social Work along with Masters programs in Public Administration and Arts in Intelligence and Security Studies. Our BSW program, with over 50 current students and 5 faculty members, is accredited until 2023. We are located on the beautiful Summerville campus in a building that was newly remodeled in fall 2016.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements

PhD in Social Work or a related field.

Required Experience

An MSW from a CSWE accredited program.

At least two years of post MSW practice experience.

An established record or demonstrated potential for high quality, original scholarship that is appropriate to the discipline and shows promise of continuation.

Ability to teach coursework in the Department’s BSW program (all specializations and subfields in social work will be considered).

Preferred Experience

Experience at the MSW or BSW level in a CSWE-accredited institution is preferred but not required.

Experience teaching on campus and online is preferred.

Conditions of Employment

All candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review. For specific positions, the final candidate may be subject to a (pre-employment) physical, drug screen, and/or credit check.

The final candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.
