In addition to helping with visioning and strategic Center planning related to the innovative care clinical, imaging and biological pillars and their respective platforms, the manager will be charged with initial building of each individual platform and its clinic integration, and subsequently with managing the input from the platforms into the multi-dimensional registry and the coordinated integration of the registry inputs into the MS clinic so that real-time precision-medicine data is available to the providers at time of patient visits.Job Description
Seeking a Program Manager for Penn’s new multiple sclerosis (MS) Innovative Care Program. This cutting-edge translational program, which redefines the care paradigm of Penn’s Department of Neurology Division of MS and related disorders, aims to integrate precision-medicine into the delivery of superb, multidisciplinary care for patients with MS and related neuro-immunological conditions across the age-span. The Program will achieve this through ‘deep endophenotyping’ of individual patients by establishing the organized and prospective collection, and the integration into clinical care, of high quality standardized clinical, imaging and biological data. This innovative approach will involve establishment of a dynamic, multi-dimensional data-registry which will avail providers and patients, at time of each visit, with the most up-to-date deep-endophenotype of each individual. Together, this will directly inform real-time management discussions and guide treatment recommendations best suited for the individual patient, at that time. In addition to providing personalized, cutting-edge quality care, the MS Innovative Care program, will also serve as the clinical ‘heart’ of Penn’s Center for Neuroinflammation and Experimental Therapeutics (CNET), as all consenting patients will be invited to contribute their high quality clinical, imaging, and biological registry data for research purposes, thereby enabling a broad range of translational research opportunities.
The MS Innovative Care program Manager will work directly with the Division Chief and CNET Director, and in close coordination with the MS Clinical Director and Nurse Manager, to vision, build and then manage all operational aspects of the Innovative Care Program and its continued growth. In addition to helping with visioning and strategic Center planning related to the innovative care clinical, imaging and biological pillars and their respective platforms, the manager will be charged with initial building of each individual platform and its clinic integration, and subsequently with managing the input from the platforms into the multi-dimensional registry and the coordinated integration of the registry inputs into the MS clinic so that real-time precision-medicine data is available to the providers at time of patient visits.
Individual pillar development will involve planning and establishing the novel elements of each pillar that build upon and extend current standard of care. For the clinical pillar, this will include establishing the paradigm of pre-provider visit standardized collection of digital data while the patient is in the waiting room (including cognitive status testing, patient reported outcomes, etc.) requiring ongoing interaction with EPIC/data management resources and staff in addition to the clinical team. For the Imaging pillar, ongoing interactions with radiology and neuroradiology team members will be needed to establish a novel paradigm with the creation of a pipeline of fresh DICOM imaging data transfer from Penn scanners, using the Flywheel platform, into an MS clinic server-supported ‘instance’ enabling integration of quantitative image metric comparisons to the same patient’s prior scan in Flywheel, and real-time feedback to the provider and into the patient record. For the biological pillar, the manager will develop the clinic-facing ‘point of care’ biosampling capability and help manage the sample pipeline with its step-by-step stewardship up to the point of entry into the biorepository. While the actual development of biological assays and their implementation to biosamples collected in the clinic will be managed by the CNET laboratory team, the MS Innovative Care Program Manager will help to plan, develop and implement the novel process wherein biological data generated by the labs can translate back to the providers and to the patient record. Once the individual pillars are established, the Manager will be responsible their ongoing coordinated integration into the clinic, for any future pillar enhancements, and (in collaboration with IT/databasing expertise), for the seamless flow of pillar outputs into the registry and back to real-time patient-care visits in the clinic.
At least MS Degree and at least 3-5 years of work experience. Additional work experience with project/study coordination and project management in a clinical research setting preferred. Particular experience in the field of clinical neurosciences, interactions with patients with neurological conditions and coordinating prospective patient cohort -based initiatives (clinical trials, clinical registries) would be distinct strengths.
