Posting DetailsPosting Number: 0601228 Position Category: Director Job Title: Director of Counseling and Student Accessibility Service Position Code: 00193X Position Type: Staff Department: Counseling and Disability Student Services Nature of Work: The Director is responsible for the overall administration, coordination of the resources and program activities of Counseling and Student Accessibility Services as defined by administrative policy, procedures and professional ethics. And, is responsible directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs. The Director is also directly responsible for general administrative responsibilities; supervision of university professional counselors, Student Accessibility Coordinator, Graduate Interns, office staff and Peer Educators. The director will have the opportunity to build upon existing success and enhance the services, programs, and responsiveness to students. Training and Experience: Master's degree required in mental health discipline: professional counseling, counseling psychology, social work, clinical psychology or another psychotherapeutically oriented discipline or mental counseling from an accredited institution of higher education and/or a minimum of five years of direct experience as an administrator; with Specialist's in a clinical and/or supervisory capacity. The director should hold or be eligible for state licensure according to the State of Georgia Licensure laws.
- Extensive knowledge of, and good judgment in the application of, complex principles of human behavior and student development theories.
- Ability to develop and maintain a strong therapeutic alliance with students.
- Ability to provide clinical assessments of students who are a danger to self or others, and to make treatment decisions based on such assessments.
- Knowledge of and ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with appropriate referral resources for students.
- Ability to understand and follow appropriate ethical and best practice professional guidelines.
- Good oral and written communication skills. Testing Requirements:Illustrative Examples of Work: - Supervises overall administration and coordination of Counseling and Student Accessibility Services programs and activities. With the staff, develops and implements protocols, policies, and procedures based on the philosophy of the counseling and accessibility programs of service and operations.
- Responsible for overseeing all individual counseling and psychotherapy, group counseling, assessment of student skills and acquisition of effective student skills, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, preventive mental health activities, coordination and recruitment of professional, non-professional, support staff and graduate Interns.
- Responsible for direct delivery of counseling services and programming to the university community.
- Responsible for the training, development, supervision and evaluation of all staff.
- Administers the procedures that monitor the quality of counseling/clinical services rendered by the office staff.
- Meets the needs of students by conducting individual and group counseling sessions in such areas as educational, personal/emotional and social problems.
- Submits semester and annual reports of the activities of the Counseling and Student Accessibility Services to the Vice President of Student Affairs; summarizing these activities, evaluating the programs and including suggestions for implementing improvements and innovations.
- Takes an active part in university policy and institutional program development to ensure that the mental health needs of the students are addressed.
- Maintains close and effective communications with administrators, faculty and staff regarding available counseling, disability services; student and staff assistance services and community resources and referrals.
- Develops procedures for the referral of students, faculty and staff to appropriate services and individuals.
- Oversees the education of faculty and staff regarding the legal issues governing the delivery of counseling, disability/accessibility and other mental health services.
- Represents the Counseling and Student Accessibility Services center to the broader institutional community.
- Represents the university in appropriate professional organizations and maintains a program of professional development for professional staff.
- Knowledge of federal laws relevant work in this position, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and American with Disabilities Act of 1990.
- Interpret medical, psychological and educational evaluations, assist in the development, administration and implementation of program goals, objectives, and procedures;
- Shares on-call crisis coverage duties on a rotating basis.
