Open Rank Faculty Position in Speech-Language Pathology
Join our community and experience Emerson College!

Emerson College, the nation's only four-year institution dedicated exclusively to majors in communication and the arts, is committed to an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity—in people, curriculum, and the college's intellectual and geographic communities. Emerson's president, Lee Pelton, has initiated the Presidential Faculty Inclusive Excellence Program in order to advance the values of diversity and inclusiveness at the college. As part of this program, the college seeks scholars and artists who bring innovation, creativity, and impact to the campus, and who bring greater depth, breadth, and diversity to our educational offerings.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is soliciting applications from candidates who can contribute to excellence in diversity. The department seeks to fill a tenured (Associate), tenure-track (Assistant), or non-tenure-track (Term) full-time position; applications from faculty at all levels are encouraged. We prefer individuals with expertise in Communication Disorders but will consider individuals in related fields.

We are especially interested in candidates who can work with CSD students and faculty to support and enhance diversity and inclusion as related to recruitment/retention, teaching, learning, and research. Tenured and tenure-track candidates will be expected to maintain a program of research. All candidates will engage in teaching and service. The teaching load may include graduate, undergraduate, on-campus and/or online courses. There may be opportunities to take on administrative roles with appropriate workload adjustments. Start date is August 19, 2021.

Required qualifications include: a doctorate (ABD considered) in Communication Disorders or a related discipline, curricular experience with diverse populations, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from various backgrounds. Tenured/tenure-track candidates must demonstrate an active research program, preferably in an area related to cultural-linguistic diversity. ASHA certification and experience with or interest in online pedagogy are strongly preferred.

Emerson's on-campus CSD program, one of the oldest and most respected in the country, is highly ranked and offers a state-of-the-art, accessible, on-campus clinic and a wide array of off-campus clinical sites, integrating students and faculty with local communities. Through our traditional on-campus programs and our innovative, online Speech@Emerson program, we prepare a diverse population of students for excellence in Speech-Language Pathology. The Speech@Emerson program leads both the College and the field in enrolling culturally and linguistically diverse students from across the country.

Emerson College enrolls over 5,100 graduate and undergraduate students from 58 countries all 50 states. Its main campus is located in the dynamic, multicultural city of Boston. The college also has campuses in Los Angeles and the Netherlands. Emerson's commitment to inclusive excellence is supported by a range of resources such as the Director of Faculty Development and Diversity, the Social Justice Center (including the Elma Lewis Center for Civic Engagement, Learning & Research), and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, and evidence of effective teaching (including recent course evaluations, if applicable). Tenured and tenure-track candidates must also submit a research statement. Please provide the names of three references who will be contacted if you become a candidate for the position (not to be contacted without your approval).

Questions about the position should be directed to Robin Danzak, Ph.D. (Search Committee Chair) at robin_danzak@emerson.edu. Review of applications will begin October 26, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled.
