Music Technology and Music Perception - 2020-2021

The Department of Music at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach any of the following areas:

Music and technology involving CNMAT technologies and Max/MSP programming.
Special topic courses involving software programming for musical applications of computers.
Music courses focusing on music perception and cognition. Music appreciation courses with an emphasis on music software and lab-based learning.

The Music Department offers these courses as a series every year as part of the elective undergraduate curriculum. Qualified candidates may be eligible to teach more than one of these courses. Responsibilities include classroom teaching, holding office hours, grading class assignments, directing final projects and classroom performances.

Minimum Basic qualifications: PhD (or international equivalent degree), by the time of application.

Additional Qualifications: (by they start date): For courses involving programming in Max/MSP, the ideal candidate will have experience in the Max/MSP programming environment and the CNMAT tools, including odot and the CNMAT Externals. For courses in Music Perception and Cognition, the ideal candidate will have experience teaching music cognition, acoustics, and psychoacoustics.

Preferred qualifications: For courses involving programming in Max/MSP, the ideal candidate will have experience with CNMAT's Pedagogical tools for Music and Technology. For courses involving Music Perception and Cognition, the ideal candidate will have published articles and/or a dissertation in the field of Music Perception and Cognition, Acoustics, or Psychoacoustics and be a practicing musician or composer. Have experience teaching in a Department of Music.

Annual, Full-time Salary: $56,381-$62,232; commensurate with experience. Appointments range from 33% to 100% time.
