The Department of Pharmacology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology position (on the Research Track). Responsibilities include overseeing a research program that utilizes sophisticated molecular and electrophysiological tools to examine brainstem mechanisms underlying control of the cardiorespiratory systems in rodents. The applicant should have experience in: patch clamp recording from neurons in acute and cultured brainstem slices; single cell and nuclei sequencing; virus design, production and injection into discrete brain nuclei; molecular histochemistry; and analysis of respiratory or blood pressure parameters in anesthetized and awake rodents. The successful candidate is expected to develop and direct research projects, submit research proposals to funding agencies, present experimental findings during lab meetings and at national conferences, and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals.
Candidates must have an MD or PhD or equivalent, and more than four years of research experience in a related field with publications.
