Department Description:
The Department of Mathematics is dedicated to enabling and encouraging mathematical thinking and understanding, providing a strong foundation for students’ careers, contributing to mathematical knowledge, and sharing the joy of discovery and creating lasting positive impressions of mathematics. Our faculty offer technical and liberal-arts courses for students throughout the university, as well as undergraduate major and minor programs in mathematics with optional emphases on applied mathematics or secondary education.


Detailed Description:
The Department of Mathematics at the University of San Diego invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship in homotopy type theory beginning Fall 2021, or earlier if desired. This is a two-year position with potential extension to a third year, funded by the grant entitled “Synthetic and Constructive Mathematics of Higher Structures in Homotopy Type Theory” from the Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) program of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR).

The postdoctoral fellow will work with Prof. Michael Shulman on projects related to this grant, and receive mentoring in professional development. Depending on availability and interest, the fellow may have the opportunity to help supervise undergraduate research students and/or to teach undergraduate courses.

Applications are encouraged from candidates working in any area related to homotopy type theory, broadly construed.


Job Requirements:
Degree: A Ph.D. in mathematics or computer science, completed by the beginning of Fall 2021.
