Tallahassee Community College is seeking candidates for the position of:  

Dean of Science and Mathematics

The Dean will report directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs & Provost 

The Dean is housed on main campus and works in collaboration with the Provost, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Associate Dean and Program Chairs to plan, research, build, implement & sustain new and existing programs.  Key responsibilities include:  

• Provides an effective and efficient system for the delivery and evaluation of curriculum including new program development.
• Provides leadership and direction in the selection, hiring, supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff within the division.  
• Monitors student evaluations of all fulltime faculty assigned to the division and monitors the preparation and maintenance of all program budgets.  
• Ensures program departments are processing contracts and personnel actions accurately and within established payroll guidelines and College operating procedures.
• Ensures that the program advisory committees meet on a scheduled basis and reports activities to the Provost/Vice President regularly.
• Reviews all program review with respective Program Directors and Associate Dean and collaborates in the development of appropriate action plans as needed.
• Coordinates and participates in student recruitment activities.
• Assesses programs for effectiveness in meeting student and community needs. Reviews data to ensure programs meet economic needs of the community.
• Reviews completion data to ensure students’ progress through programs successfully. Ensures programs meet FLDOE and SACSCOC standards.
• Supervises department leadership in the development and management of all technical curricula.
• Coordinates the scheduling of all classes within the division.  
• Develops career/technical grant proposals and assists with other grant proposal development.
• Provides supervision and management of grants awarded to the division (e.g., Perkins, NSF). Coordinates budget planning and supervises budgetary expenditures for the division. Manages student issues. Interfaces with other College departments to promote effectiveness of programs. 
• Collects, monitors and assesses data used in decision making and program reviews.
• Supervises, trains, and works with program chairs, faculty, and staff development activities.
• Responsible for coordinating, documenting, and implementing all unit strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness efforts within the scope of administrative supervision. 

Applicants for this position must possess:  

• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in Natural Sciences, Health Education and Nutrition, Mathematics or Statistics or master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Natural Sciences, Health Education and Nutrition, Mathematics or Statistics.   Additionally, applicants must have experience in management, administration, or leadership and four (4) years of demonstrated satisfactory teaching at a post-secondary educational institution.

Successful Applicants Will Demonstrate the Following:  

• Knowledge of theories, practices, and current trends in related field of study and the teaching of related field; 
• Knowledge of techniques utilized in administering or instructing an academic and/or workforce program; 
• Knowledge of local, state and national laws relating to field of study;
• Knowledge of distance learning/hybrid and other current trends in course delivery; 
• Knowledge of use of technology for the classroom and effective classroom teaching/learning methodologies; 
• Knowledge of curriculum and program design, revision, and assessment; and knowledge of personnel assessment models.   
• Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office, applicable division software, and institutional communication, assessment, and web tools.
• Skilled in managing personnel, expense, and capital budgets. 
• Ability to provide effective leadership in the division. 
• Ability to promote an environment that supports student learning; ability to mentor and lead faculty.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Academic Affairs leadership team as well as other leaders on campus and throughout the state of Florida.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, staff, and the community.
• Ability to assess, implement and evaluate the needs for academic and/or workforce programs within the college.
• Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
• Ability to evaluate faculty and staff effectively and to communicate clearly their accomplishments as well as areas of needed improvement
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse student population.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and ability to maintain detailed records and reports.
