The Team Leader, NCS-Database Administration performs high-level management and administration of a mission-critical database. The functions are very complex and the environment more broadly defined. Team Leader, has overall responsibility for the successful design, implementation and management of the database including assuring database: security, availability, recoverability and optimum performance. This position works under general direction to plan, develop and implement functions &/or projects.

  • Responsible for the management, planning, and operations of the Database Administration group (part of the Server and Network Services area of University Information Services).
  • Receives periodic direction from UIS leadership and develops project objectives, organizational changes and budget justifications based on those directions.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of technical policies and procedures, which determine the use and operation of these systems across the university as a whole.

Work Interactions

Reports to the Director, Student Systems. This person has daily contact with internal UIS staff, vendors and members of the GU faculty and staff. This person works directly with many end-users and senior leaders to identify requirements for data management across the University.

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 7+ years' work experience in managing Oracle and other database systems

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:

The following qualifications are required.
  • Must have at least 7+ years working with Oracle and MS SQL Server and be able to implement Database Patching and Upgrades and support performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Must have firsthand experience with all typical DBA responsibilities including database design and tuning, data import/export, software and database patching and upgrades.
  • Must also understand how to protect the security and integrity of the database on the system and through the network and must be familiar and have experience working with LINUX/ UNIX operating system.

The following qualifications are desirable.
  • Experience in managing a small team of technical staff.
  • Experience in supporting Banner Application and performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Experience in managing and supporting AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience in managing and supporting OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager).

Other Skills:

Must be able to communicate well with staff and end-users. Will be required to write and maintain extensive systems documentation in electronic and web form.
