The Coordinator of Student Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion is responsible for the planning, developing, implementing and evaluating of co-curricular programs and events, including overseeing campus clubs and organizations. In addition, the Coordinator will develop and assess diversity and inclusion programs and services to support university-wide efforts to meet strategic and retention goals.
The Coordinator works with all student organizations to facilitate their use of university resources and to empower students in their provision of services, programs, and activities that enhance the academic experience, extend learning, and build community at Savannah State University. Creates an intellectually vibrant and caring environment where student engagement, education, and cultural exploration occurs while guiding and shaping student-centered programs to honor differences and shared experiences of the entire campus community.Responsibilities
- Work with related academic and administrative departments to foster collaboration in achieving the goal of greater diversity, a more inclusive campus climate.Create programs and other co-curricular experiences for diverse student population.Coordinate services and promote usage of spaces in the Spectrum Resource Center, Commuter Lounge, and Organization Suite including the cubicle spaces, conference meeting rooms, and other resources.Serve as the liaison between the university offices and departments and student organizations.Develop departmental processes to enhance the student organization program.Manage the annual re-certification process for student organizations.Coordinate events that showcase student organizations and general campus involvement benefits.Coordinates with student organizations for the recognition, renewal, training, and event management, including advising students in starting new organizations, developing and coordinating training resources for student organizations and assist with presenting workshops related to officer responsibilities.Train student organization leaders on effective event planning and execution.Develop resources (physical and online) to help student organization officers.Manage social media presence for the Office of Student Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion Services.Manage and update the department website and all social media initiatives.Responsible, along with other department staff, for the overall promotion of the benefits of campus involvement in relation to student retention and success.
Bachelor’s Degree Required. Minimum of three years of experience in a higher education environment or relatively similar environment required. Related experience in student programming, leadership, activities, and/or advising student organizations.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong commitment to student development and sensitivity to diverse population. Ability to communicate effectively and to develop strategies to market programs and events. Exceptional organizational, planning, assessment, and interpersonal skills.Conditions of Employment
