Business Manager- Sociology 

The Department of Sociology seeks a Business Manager to manage the financial, human resources, and administrative functions of the department.  This position is responsible for the preparation of the annual budget for multiple state-funded accounts and for management of those budgets throughout the fiscal year.  This position is also responsible for the submission of proposals in Cayuse, assisting with the creation of budgets for proposal submissions, and for the daily oversight of externally-funded grant and contract accounts in the department, insuring compliance with Uniform Guidance.  This position is responsible for processing financial actions for the department, including managing travel for faculty, staff, students and visitors, ensuring compliance with University policies.  This position oversees the appointments of graduate students and faculty in the department, including the completion of visa documents for international hires.  This position coordinates faculty searches, and oversees the tenure and promotion process for tenure-track faculty and the promotion process for non-tenure-track faculty.  This position manages scholarship, fellowship, and award payments for undergraduate and graduate students and manages the fee waiver reimbursement requests for graduate students.  This position serves as the primary resource for departmental faculty, staff, and students regarding fiscal and human resources policies and procedures.  This position is responsible for timetable development and entry in Banner and assists with course management in Banner.  This position will supervise one non-exempt employee.



Qualifications
Required qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business area. Commensurate experience in higher education financial management may substitute for formal education. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and a large format HR/financial system, such as SAP or PeopleSoft.  Ability to communicate effectively in writing and by phone, ability to work with a broad spectrum of people with diverse educational backgrounds and abilities.  Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines as required.  Ability to work as part of a team and take on new tasks with minimum supervision.  Ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Preferred qualifications:

Five or more years of experience in a financial management position at a college or university.  Knowledge of faculty processes, such as tenure and promotion.  Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and Federal Acquisition Regulation and knowledge of University of Tennessee policies and procedures.  Knowledge of IRIS, Cayuse, and Argos.
