Occupational Summary:

Perform a variety of data management, technical and statistical duties with an emphasis on statistical genetics and bioinformatics analysis of large-scale datasets to support research program that focuses on the study of genetic and non-genetic factors contributing to successful aging, health, and longevity.

Work Performed:

    Manages several large-scale longitudinal and cross-sectional datasets with phenotypic and genotyping information including (but not limited to) such tasks as downloading, updating, maintaining original data, performing data formatting and pre-processing, and quality control procedures. Constructs various analytic phenotypic and genetic data files from original datasets as required for the projects including combining multiple disparate raw databases using relevant software. Assists in harmonization of various phenotypes across examinations and different studies. Performs a variety of duties involving the application of basic, intermediate, and advanced statistical methods to the design of research studies, and to the compilation and analysis of statistical data. Learns new statistical methods, and applies new skills to future projects.Functions under minimal supervision as a member of a research/study team. Provides statistical input in the design, execution and analysis of scientifically conducted studies.Documents analyses, creates summaries, and presents results in written and verbal form to requestors. Able to work on any phase of a manuscript preparation, project writing, progress reports, and other regulatory documents, with guidance. Builds documentation and organizational skills to effectively return to analysis after long intervals during which no progress was made by other members of the project team. Contributes meaningfully to discussions of analyses and identifies next steps for analyses.Develops own codes using relevant software (primarily R) and validates results independently and in collaboration with researchers. Conducts analyses using advanced mathematical models developed in the research team. Assists in development of new advanced mathematical models and their implementation and dissemination in collaboration with other senior statisticians and researchers. Collaborates with Principal Investigator, senior researchers and statisticians regarding data management and statistical and modeling needs. Understands and complies with Data Use Agreements and other relevant regulations related to data management and analyses. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

A working knowledge of R, Linux/Unix environment, and solid command of the English language is required. Knowledge of other statistical software (e.g., SAS) is a plus. Preference will be given to applicants with working knowledge of statistical genetics methods and bioinformatics analyses, and experience with handling and analyzing relevant large scale datasets. Prior contribution to analysis of research projects and/or academic manuscripts (especially in genetic association analyses) is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications


Work requires a minimum of a Master's degree in statistics, (bio) statistics or related field and no relevant experience, or a Bachelors degree in statistics, (bio)statistics or related field and 2 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination or relevant education and/or work experience.
