Scope of Job:
Due to the growth of the Educational Technology programs at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), the Department of Teaching and Learning is seeking to hire a full-time Lecturer to teach in undergraduate, master's, and doctoral-level Educational Technology courses beginning in Fall 2021. Responsibilities include delivering quality synchronous and asynchronous online instruction within the respective programs. If hired, candidates will need to get certified in Quality Matters prior to or during their first teaching semester.
Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching undergraduate/graduate courses per semester.
  • Providing regular and timely feedback to students.
  • Maintaining and reporting student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies.
  • Participating in workgroups to accomplish program and department level assignments or projects such as accreditation, recruitment, and service.
  • Contributing to regular review and improvement of existing curriculum.
  • Using and integrating technology as needed in the performance of all duties and responsibilities.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Minimum qualifications for the Lecturer in Educational Technology are a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational/Instructional Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, Teaching & Learning, or related field of study from an accredited institution; minimum of 18 graduate hours in Educational/Instructional Technology or related field of study, experience in online teaching, and use of instructional technology to support teaching and learning in distributed learning environments.

    Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
    Candidates will
    •create, use, and manage instructional materials and resources.
    •implement educational technologies and processes based on research and best practices.
    •design, develop, implement, and evaluate technology-rich learning environments.
    •engage in reflective practice to improve teaching and performance.

    Preferred Qualification:
    Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational/Instructional Technology, experience with university and/or community college teaching, instructional design, and experience working online platforms including Learning Management Systems, social media, and TK20. Quality Matters Certification. Experience as an online learner, as well as experience in online course design.

    Additional Information:
    UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
