Title: Director of Global Education

Description: The Director for Global Education serves as the College’s Senior International Officer (SIO), providing visionary leadership for international education and community educational engagements. These include: services and programming for inbound international students, including matriculated and visiting students, the Northeast Semester Program, outbound students studying abroad, the Peace Corps Preparatory Program, global fellowships such as Emerson, Duffy and Cyrus Mehri, and off-campus international & domestic J Term Programs.

This action-oriented individual strategically promotes global education and community engagement initiatives to students, faculty, parents, and domestic/international organizations by identifying strategic direction and initiatives, evaluating and implementing best practices, and assessing programs and services to ensure that the College’s mission is achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive and strategic assessment plan to include: creation of enhanced mission, vision, goals, and outcomes to better align with the College’s mission and Organizing Principle and Strategic Framework.
  • Provides visionary leadership and budgetary oversight for the functional areas of study abroad and international student services, including but not limited to the Peace Corps Prep Program and the Northeast Semester Program.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state immigration requirements for international students, faculty, researchers and all international requirements for domestic students traveling abroad; acts as the College’s PDSO in SEVIS.
  • Partners with faculty to assist them in designing, developing, and launching off-campus academic programs during January Term that represent the intersection of faculty interest, student demand, geographic variety, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensures that all faculty, staff, and students understand and comply with relevant College policies and procedures, including those associated with risk management and liability.
  • Actively cultivates opportunities for students to participate in programs abroad.
  • Has primary responsibility for coordinating the collection and dissemination of information about international scholarships and fellowships such as Emerson, Duffy. Mehri Fellowships and others that may arise.
  • Serves as ex officio member and coordinator of the Committee on Off-Campus Study (COCS), comprised of faculty and staff to assist in providing insight, feedback and direction to global education programs and services.
  • Offers professional development opportunities to campus administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure the best possible experience for the College’s international student population.
  • Collaborates with the Admissions Office to assist in the recruitment and of international students; and to provide expertise to inform the enrollment and retention strategy for international students.
  • Collaborates with Admissions and the Center for Student Success (CSS) to offer fall and spring orientation programs customized for international students, assuring the smooth transition of international students in the larger campus community.
  • Participate in significant campus activities including Welcome Weekend, True Blue Weekend, and Commencement Weekend.
  • Comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local and associational regulations.
  • As a representative of the College, expected to comport oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Minimum requirements for this position are a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least five years of experience in administrative leadership in higher education, including global education, engaged learning, and other high impact practices. Experience living, working, and/or studying abroad. Demonstrative commitment to the mission and values of a residential, liberal arts college. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the College. SEVIS certification is required.

Preferred additional qualifications for this position are college-level curriculum development and teaching experience; proven leadership experience in international education abroad associations; experience in cross-cultural training; and experience in marketing including print, online, and social media development.

  • Applied knowledge of federal and state immigration requirements; up-to-date training in SEVIS.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; experience giving presentations.
  • Fluency or proficiency in a language other than English.
  • Computer knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience using databases and publishing programs; experience using online resources pertaining to global education and service learning.
  • Proven leadership experience in the areas of global education, community engagement, employment abroad, and advising.
  • Significant experience working with and supervising diverse audiences, including students, staff, faculty, employers, alumni, and so forth.

Athletics
Hartwick sponsors 18 intercollegiate teams, 8 for men and 10 for women. Hartwick sports compete at the NCAA Division III level.
