Position Summary:

The Department of Criminology, Sociology, and Geography at Arkansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminology position beginning August 15, 2021

A Ph.D in Criminology or Criminal Justice conferred by the time of appointment is required. The desired specializations for this position are race/ethnicity and crime, particularly in the context of corrections and social justice. Preferred candidates' research will focus on Delta and the American south to support the Arkansas State Rural Studies Initiative

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Regular responsibilities include teaching, research, advising and mentoring students as well as engaging in service at all levels in the university and for the community
  • The standard teaching load for pre-tenure faculty is 12 hours with the opportunity for one course release per semester for research reassignment
  • The teaching assignments will include undergraduate and graduate level courses
  • Other duties as assigned


The successful candidate will be prepared to provide instruction to lower and upper division courses as well as graduate level courses that meet departmental standards for undergraduate and graduate instruction

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Arkansas State University is a comprehensive public university located approximately 70 miles northwest of Memphis. The department offers a well-rounded curriculum to its more than 300 majors in its BA programs in Sociology and Criminology and also offers courses in Geography. The department also offers two graduate programs - an MA in Sociology and an MA in Criminal Justice. Each of the undergraduate programs is available in traditional and online modalities. An earned Ph.D. in Criminology or Criminal Justice
