Position Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina and North Carolina Children’s Hospital has a unique educational and clinical care opportunity for a Developmental/Behavioral (D/B) Pediatrician.

We are actively working to increase access to developmental, behavioral health and mental health care at UNC Children’s Hospital. There are a variety of settings in which the D/B faculty member will provide clinical services including direct care in a UNC D/B specialty consultative clinic and as collaborative care team member in the special infant care clinic, facilitating developmental assessment for high risk infants. These clinics often include either students or residents on the D/B rotation and the faculty person will be able to assume a leadership role in resident D/B education. Finally, additional opportunities depending on the faculty member’s interest and expertise include precepting in the resident continuity clinic to integrate D/B training into primary care teaching and/or joining collaborative care teams at Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities or the TEACCH Program.

UNC has tremendous institutional resources to contribute to professional growth and enrichment through the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities, the highest funded autism research center in the country, a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program, and the TEACCH program.

The position will be located in the General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine division, which is the largest division in the Department of Pediatrics and includes primary care clinics, Child Abuse Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine and other affiliated specialty services. Additionally, the division employs psychologists, social workers, and has a contract with a child psychiatrist to support mental health evaluations. The division has a nationally-known and productive research program and a long record of teaching excellence. The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina is an attractive place to live and work with great climate, schools, and both mountains and beach within a day drive.

Educational Requirements:

Applicants should be board certified or eligible in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.

Qualifications and Experience:

Applicants should be board certified or eligible in both Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and General Pediatrics. Applicants from under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Equal Opportunity Employer:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran.
