Job Summary
This position represents Columbus State University to the student body in regards to Student Activities Council (SAC) and the establishment or renewal of Registered Student Organizations (RSO). Graduate Assistants will be responsible for aiding the advisor with planning and implementing all aspects of programming.

Student Activities Council commitment to help incoming students and families of current students, into and through college by:

  • Planning, develop, and execute events to meet the current needs and interests of students
  • Providing opportunities for learning and engagement in the event programming process
  • Providing information, resources, leadership to students
  • Assisting students in establishing healthy connections between administrators, community members, and event programming companies
  • Providing a balanced experience of social and educational events
  • Empowering students to maximize their college experience

Organizational Relationships:
  • Reports to the Director of Student Life and Development
  • The position receives oral and written advice and/or instructions from the advisor
  • The position has indirect supervision received from Student Life and Development Staff

Student Activities Council
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and implementing the SAC executive board recruitment and training process
  • Oversee weekly individual meetings with Executive Board in conjunction with Advisor
  • Assist and manage campus logistics, vender and attraction research, contractual agreements under the supervision of the Advisor
  • Establish professional relationships with Student Life & Development team and other stakeholders
  • Attend weekly Student Life & Development Staff meetings, SAC Executive Board Meetings and organization meetings
  • Promote development by implementing creative social, educational, and cultural student programs and activities
  • Assist with coordination, preparation and distribution of advertising and promotional materials
  • Maintain websites, social media platforms and CSUinvolve portal
  • Serve as a resource and advisor for students and volunteers
  • Implement assessment and evaluation processes for events; maintain all calendars and records for event and budget purposes
  • Represent Columbus State University as needed at conferences, meetings, and other official functions
  • Remain current on University programs and policies as it relates to student organizations & programming

Registered Student Organizations
  • Facilitate involvement fairs each semester and during summer orientations
  • Leadership and training opportunities

Office of Student Life and Development
  • Participate and assist in the implementation and execution of major events held by the university such as:
  • ROAR Orientation
  • Cougar Kickoff & Homecoming
  • WinterFest
  • Other campus initiatives as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
Enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Columbus State University; well organized and able to multi-task as needed; Bachelor's Degree ; valid driver's license; possess excellent oral and written communication skills; possess skills necessary for event and program planning; possess basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs; possess organizational skills, abilities to multi-task and follow through on assigned responsibilities and model appropriate behavior for student leaders and the campus community.

Preferred Qualifications
Familiar with student development theory and related educational theories; seeking a Masters or PhD in Higher Education or a related field; experience in planning events, leadership training and advising undergraduate students and experience working with students, parents, university administrators and faculty.

Proposed Salary
This position requires 19-25 contact hours per week with some evenings and weekends required. The position is a ten month academic year appointment, with summer appointment contingent upon funding.
