Requirements

The Facilities Engineer reports directly to the Chief Engineer, may report to another manager or staff member as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Director of Facilities Management. Primary purpose of the Facilities Engineer to provide building support services that ensure a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the University community. The Facilities Engineer is expected to behave in a professional manner, comply with policies and practices, be flexible with respect to scheduling and work as part of a team. The Facilities Engineer will:
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable campus environment by operating, controlling and performing preventive/predictive maintenance on the HVACR, Electrical, Mechanical, and Life Safety building systems 24/7.
  • Be proficient in the operation of automated building management systems, controls, pumps, heat exchangers, water treatment, cooling towers, boilers, fire alarm, sprinkler, emergency generator, elevator, and various other mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems and equipment associated with the operation of large buildings.
  • Assist with over all regulatory and code compliance of all building systems as required by Law and local jurisdictions.


The position is designated, “Emergency Employee” by the University's definition, which requires that incumbent report to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late or closing early. Must be able to be flexible to accommodate emergency situations including but not limited to snow removal.

Qualifications
  • Must have a DC 3rd Class Steam Engineers and EPA Universal CFC License.
  • Valid driver's license from Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia and must conform to University Driving Policy.
  • High School Diploma
  • 4 to 5 Years work experience.
  • Building Automation Control operation experience.
  • Ability to read blue prints.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
