The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Molecular Diagnostics with broad capabilities in molecular testing including sign-out, development and validation of molecular and genomic assays targeting oncology, constitutional conditions and infectious disease. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. American Board of Pathology in AP, CP and Eligibility or sub-specialty certification in Molecular Genetic Pathology.

Teaching responsibilities may include formal didactics to trainees at all levels, one-on-one teaching in the laboratory, intra - and interdepartmental lectures to trainees and physicians within the UPHS network.

Clinical responsibilities may include development, maintenance, and expansion of genomic testing with a particular emphasis on next generation sequencing. Sign-out and management responsibilities are expected in other domains of molecular diagnostics. Excellent communication skills are necessary as the position will require significant interaction with divisional, departmental and enterprise-wide leadership and personnel as well as frequent interaction and engagement with teams including clinicians, laboratory heads and institutional leaders to provide tactical and strategic input relevant to the clinical laboratory. The successful candidate will be capable of implementing, validating and trouble-shooting a variety of tests ranging from FDA-approved products to laboratory developed protocols. Ability to identify and efficiently integrate into departmental and institutional infrastructure for reporting and dissemination of results of testing from high-capacity platforms will be important for effectiveness in this position. The position will require regular performance of gap analysis and anticipation of challenges including logistical considerations.
