Job Summary

The Department of Middle, Secondary, and Science Education in the College of Education at the University of North Georgia invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member as an Assistant/Associate Professor beginning August 2021. Specifically, we are searching for a candidate who is an expert in special education and who has teaching experience in grades 4-12.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a member of the Middle, Secondary, and Science Department. The position will also allow for possibly teaching at the level of graduate programs. The faculty member is expected to teach specified courses, prepare course materials, provide support and guidance to students, foster professional relationships with public school partners, maintain records pertinent to accreditation, and supervise students in field and clinical placements. The primary teaching locations will be on the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses with the opportunity for additional locations or formats as needed. General faculty responsibilities in the Teacher Education Department include the following:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses face-to-face, hybrid, or online;
  • Supervise candidates' field and clinical experiences;
  • Advise students;
  • Maintain an active program of research/scholarly activity and publications in area of specialization;
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, public schools, and professional community;
  • Participate in program review, program assessment, and accreditation activities; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • The successful candidate must have familiarity with teaching, learning, education theories, and current research; knowledge of current national standards; ability to work collegially with other members of the faculty and utilize opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration; a scholarship and research agenda; and professional written and oral communication skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in Special Education, Middle Grades Education, Secondary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle or high schools is required.
  • Special education degrees and experiences are preferred.
