POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Title:  Lab Animal Facility Manager (Full-time, Exempt)

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks a manager of the Mossman/Walters Lab Animal Facility.  The manager is responsible for facility operations and personnel required for the husbandry and care of laboratory animals. 

The facility includes conventional, BSL2 and quarantine housing areas, necropsy, and experimental surgical/procedure rooms. 

The position ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and University regulations and policies pertaining to the use of animals in research.  The primary purpose of the position is to manage LAF staff and facilities, including personnel management, bio-security, safety, animal health and welfare compliance, and fiscal management.  Identify, evaluate, and supply any needs in regards to all aspects of the facility including personnel, supplies, equipment/building repairs, bio-security and safety.



Qualifications
Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in animal related field such as animal science, animal behavior, animal biology or biology.

Experience: 

Must have spent a minimum of five years working as an animal technician within a laboratory animal facility or equivalent.  Must have minimum of three years of experience as a Supervisor in an animal facility (or equivalent) with a clear progression in overall responsibility and scope.  The five years of working in a lab animal facility and three years of supervision can be simultaneous.

Preferred: Laboratory Animal Technologist certification from AALAS or CMAR.
