Hiring Department Community Innovation and Action Center ResponsibilitiesThe Program Director is responsible for the management and operation of the Coro Fellows Program (Program) as part of the Community Innovation and Action Center at UMSL (CIAC). This person reports to the Director of CIAC and works in partnership with the Fellows Advisory Team to provide resources, support, coordination, and overall direction for the Fellows Program. Manages all development, budgeting, and expenses to sustain and operate the Program. Maintains effective communication between CIAC, the Program, and Coro National. Professionally represents Coro at community meetings and events. Determines staffing needs and ensures resources are available to accomplish priorities. Oversees all activities of the Program including public relations, marketing, fundraising, recruitment, field placements, and selection day.


  • Coordinates all activities of the Fellows Advisory Team and works directly with them to oversee the program.
  • Manage all Program staff; helps hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff; maintain records; implement management systems that ensure oversight of all activities.
  • Assist in budget development, implementation, and reporting in cooperation with the appropriate CIAC and UMSL leadership; approve Program expenditures.
  • Coordinate and oversee implementation of the Program’s fundraising plans including grant-writing, annual program support, special events, and sponsorships in cooperation with CIAC and UMSL.
  • Coordinate and oversee internal and external communications, public relations, and marketing in cooperation with CIAC and UMSL.
  • Conducts all performance evaluations according to UMSL policy.


  • Implements Program as determined by CIAC and Coro National.
  • Oversees and participates in recruitment and Selection Day.
  • Generates ideas/proposals to staff and volunteers to meet strategic organizational needs.
  • Ensures objective, measurable periodic reviews, evaluation studies, and implements modification of Program to meet identified needs.
  • Assures that the Program conforms to all National standards.
  • Works directly with the Program trainer/facilitator to assure Program quality and integrity.


  • Manages and monitors preparation and implementation of the budget in cooperation with CIAC and UMSL.
  • Ensures the Fellows Program is adequately financed for its current operational needs and long- term goals, that maximum value is realized from its resources; that policies necessary to ensure financial control are implemented and monitored.
  • Provides leadership for fund development resulting in sufficient funding for the program.
  • Facilitates grant application process in cooperation with UMSL.
  • Researches and actively identifies and obtains funding opportunities in the community in partnership with appropriate staff and alumni.
  • Coordinates and raises approximately $350-400,000 annually, including placement fees.


  • Provides for marketing and publicity directly related to increasing the community’s understanding and visibility of the Program.
  • Coordinates all public information with the UMSL marketing department.
  • Represents Program at community events, professional conferences and meetings.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with other community representatives and elected officials as needed.
Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred; 3-5 years successful management and fundraising experience; proven fundraising success; commitment to strengthening the St. Louis region; evidence of strong support of social justice and racial equity; excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills; basic computer literacy; ability to work with and motivate staff and alumnae of all ages and varying interests and professions; sense of humor essential.
