Adjunct Lecturer - Computational Linguistics (Dept. of Linguistics)
Georgetown University: Main Campus: Georgetown College: Linguistics

Location: Washington, DC
Open Date: Oct 28, 2020
Deadline:

Description
The Department of Linguistics seeks an Adjunct Lecturer to design and teach a Spring 2021 course, "Social Factors in Computational Linguistics and AI." The course should cover topics in computational approaches to sociolinguistics and the analysis of speaker/author attributes in language, as well as social/ethical implications of language technologies in AI, such as algorithmic bias and discrimination. Undergraduate and graduate students in the course will have some experience with Python programming and NLP; thus there should be a significant technical component to the course, though discussion of relevant theories in sociolinguistics, sociology, ethics, public policy, and other areas is also encouraged.

This upper-level course will be taught over the standard semester term of 15+ weeks from January through May and also includes standard instructional duties such as holding office hours and grading. The successful applicant will be hired and appointed as a part-time Adjunct Lecturer.

Applicants must have an MS in Linguistics, Linguistics, Computer Science, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred), as well as industry and/or academic experience with topics relevant to the course, including familiarity with recent research findings.

Applications will be reviewed beginning November 6, 2020 until the position is filled.
