  • Position Description:

    Under general supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Supervisor providesindividualized, direct patient care of patients under the supervision of aphysician. The Supervisor assists in the implementation of the delivery ofhealth care services, assists fellow employees in providing the highest qualitypersonalized patient care, and maintains a positive work relationship with thehealth care team. Administers medications only under the direction, supervisionand control of the physician. Responsible for assisting physicians, officestaff, consumers, University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) employees withobtaining accurate information and appropriate referrals to the UTMC. Providesdirect supervision to Medical Assistants, office staff, students, and volunteersas needed. Provides overall supervision of clinic functions in the absence ofthe Clinic Manager or as delegated.

    The ages of patients served spans the spectrum of the life cycle. Carewill be directed at taking vital signs, assisting patients to room, andassisting the nurses, physicians, students and residents in the clinical area,recognizing that every age group has unique developmental characteristicsinfluencing the approach that should be utilized in caring for these patients.

    Demonstrates clinical competency in caring for patients as identified inunit's Scope of Care. Demonstrates competency in the care of the patient in thefollowing stages of the life cycle: infants, children, adolescents, adults, andgeriatrics.  

    Qualifications:

    Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • State of Ohio Registered Nurse License required.
    • American Heart Association BLS Certification required.
    • Two years training and supervision experience required.
    • Exhibits accuracy, integrity, and flexibility to work multiple outpatientareas.
    • Motivated to plan and organize work, and to work without supervision.
    • Is tactful and courteous in dealing with patients and visitors. Ableto maintain an effective working relationship with personnel and the medicalstaff.
    • Required to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, andholidays. Must be punctual and dependable.
    • Successfully completes clinic specific competencies.
    • Adheres to UTMC iCare and Customer Service values.
    • Previous Electronic Medical Records experience preferred.
    • Previous Ambulatory Pediatrics Clinic experience preferred.
    • Previous Ambulatory Care nursing experience preferred.  
    • Possesses knowledge andskills in techniques of good patient care and maintains competency throughcontinuing education.

    Communication and other skills:

    • Able to document care legibly in hand written text.
    • Able to navigate through the EMR and record required data accurately and efficiently (within the probationary period).
    • Able to communicate and collaborate with team members including but not limited to physicians, nurses, managers, other MAs and other team members.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color visionwhen applicable.
    • Ability to hear with or without aides).
    • Ability toorally communicate.
    • Good manual dexterity.
    • Ability to push, pull, roll,and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally.
    • Ability to stand, walk frequently.
    • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently.
    • Ability to performCPR (if required for position).  

    Working Conditions:1. Must be able to work flexible hours, shifts, holidays and weekends.2. Tolerate busy office environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and physicians.3. Requires prolonged walking and standing. Occasional lifting of patients sometimes over 200 pounds.4. Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds required.5. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range and manual dexterity.6. Requires the ability to operate various types of office equipment, including but not limited to:Personal computer, fax machines, copiers, telephones7. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment on a daily basis.8. Must be able to work effectively both with internal and external customers in stressful situations.
