Professional Research Assistant

Nature of Work

This position involves performing basic and preclinical research on obesity and its metabolic complications. Studies will include molecular and physiological assessments of animal models, in situ and in vitro studies of metabolism and metabolic markers, and coordinating collaborative team science with multiple laboratories. Responsibilities will involve implementation and performance of animal and cell culture experiments, tissue processing, data analysis, and image-based analysis.

Examples of Work Performed

General laboratory operations managementSmall animal genotyping, exercising, feeding, weighing, and welfare checksSmall animal survival surgery, necropsy, and tissue collection/processing.
  • JESS, ELISA and other molecular assays
  • Cell culture and mitochondrial function assays
  • Coordination of research in core facilities/equipment associated with the Colorado NORC
  • Coordination of research activities with other institutional cores on campus
  • Data entry, management, analysis, and presentation Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as follows:

    PRA Level 2 $37,500 to $52,000

    PRA Level 3 $41,500 to $76,000

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

     

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience or Master's Degree for PRA2 Level
  • Bachelor's degree with three years of relevant experience or Master's Degree and one year of relevant experience for PRA3 Level
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with IACUC compliance, rodent handling and genotyping
  • Experience with sterile laboratory and molecular biology techniques
  • Knowledge in computer-controlled research instrumentation
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), SPSS, Adobe Professional
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HIPAA requirements
  • Experience using SAS or R programing
  • Experience performing computational image analysis
  • MS in relevant fields is preferred and PhD level training will be considered.
