JOB TITLEPost-Doctoral FellowLOCATIONWorcesterDEPARTMENT NAMEFire Protection - NFR JMDIVISION NAMEWorcester Polytechnic Institute - WPIJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARYThe candidate will be responsible for performing individual and collaborative combustion related research in the field of Fluid Mechanics and Transport. Experience in this area or an area related to surface tension flows, gravity flows, heat and mass transfer is useful. Work is experimental with some component of theoretical modeling. Strong capabilities in building experimental set ups, instrumentation (temperature, mass loss, heat flux) as well as laser diagnostics would be strongly considered. As part of this effort the candidate will be expected to interface closely with companion efforts at U Notre Dame, and to advice, train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate should have a background or interested centered in research and development of two phase flows.JOB DESCRIPTION
Specific responsibilities include:
Plan and execute a strategic plan of research, including defining objectives, determining experimental requirements, and identifying long-term goals for the research area. Develop and implement new test facilities and new experimental methods.
Advise and co-advise graduate students. Including, directing students in experimental design, simulation/modeling, providing support in data reduction, and interpretation of experimental results, proofing and consultation, as well as presentation advice for publications, seminars, and posters. Recruit graduate students. Strong writing and verbal skills are required.
Be fiscally responsible for generating and managing grant money, including preparing, writing new grant proposals. Be responsible for budget to manage lab resources. Specify, order and approve facility equipment and endeavors. Represent the group at selected conferences and professional meetings.
Act as a reviewer of others work in the scholarly press. Be actively involved with scientific societies in the fields of fluid physics and multiphase flows.
