The Department of Neurological Surgery is charged with responsibility for medical education, medical care, and clinical research activities for Neurosurgical specialties at UF & Shands. This full time position is responsible for conducting research within the department’s neuro-oncology laboratory.

Under the direction of the Principle Investigator, the Research Assistant Professor will be responsible for executing priority projects within the neuro-oncology program, leading projects independently and producing data of sufficient quality for publication and funding.

The Research Assistant Professor will be expected to:

Conduct Research

These activities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Reading and analyzing relevant literature; contributing new ideas, actively engaging in scientific discussion, providing expertise to inform discussion of new concepts.
  • Performing original research, data analysis, paper writing and grant writing in independent and collaborative fashion.
  • Developing and publishing abstracts/publications for the dissemination of data; Presenting data at scientific meetings; Preparing figures and other elements important for grant submissions; Submitting grant proposals to fund research.
  • Performing experimental biological data analysis, including but not limited to flow cytometry, qPCR, ELISA, animal imaging.
  • Performing Next Gen Sequencing data analysis (e.g. RNA-seq, DNA-seq, Attac-seq, ChIp-seq)
  • Performing Single Cell RNA-seq analysis.
  • Developing new methods in systems biology, computational biology, and machine learning.

Supervise and Teach/Mentor Junior Researchers

These activities will include, but will not be limited to:

    • Participate in one-on-one teaching and mentoring activities.
    • Mentor and teach undergraduate student in scientific programs.
    • Supervise visiting scholars and technologists who participate in relevant research activities.
    • Contribute to managing a positive lab environment including the spirit of collaboration and helping others


    Minimum Requirement: Ph.D. and or M.D.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • At least 3 years of postdoctoral research
    • Special expertise in Tumor Treating Fields basic and translational research
    • Expertise in Single Cell RNA seq analysis
