UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking an IT User Support Technician/Local Support Professional (LSP) to join our User Experience & Engagement team in Charlottesville, VA. This position provides support for ITS customers and constituents across the UVA community. The LSP analyzes, defines, tests, troubleshoots, and implements hardware and software technologies for UVA's ITS organization, as well as other assigned organizations within UVA and its affiliates. Duties include supporting desktop, network, server, and shared IT infrastructure resources. This individual will also manage computer hardware, software, licensing, and associated accessories.

The successful candidate will be agile, adaptable, quick to learn and be well skilled in wearing many hats. He or she will be responsible for supporting up to 200 users at any given time. Cross-training is encouraged, as this is an opportunity to grow and build your skillset across several IT areas.Applicants should have knowledge and understanding of HD encryption, MS Configuration Manager, KACE, JAMF, GPO, as well as knowledge and support of Windows and Apple OS's (Win10, 1909+, OSX 10.15-11.1). The LSP will need to understand security principles, concepts, and best operating procedures.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing, deploying, and supporting VM desktops and infrastructure (VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion, Hyper-V) experience with virtualization of applications (VMWare); experience with MDT, SCCM and other tools sets for the rapid installation of OS, hardware imaging, deployment, software installation and patching of Windows 10 machines. Preference will be given to candidates that have demonstratable knowledge of AD management, GPO, JAMF, SCCM, MDT, Powershell, and other enterprise-class desktop management tools.

Duties/Responsibilities Include:

  • Analyze/solve problems on complex computer applications and systems for students, faculty, and staff within their designated area; in addition to serving as the secondary support for teammates.

  • Provide a wide range of in-depth technical assistance to departmental user support staff.

  • Provide individual and/or group instruction and training to students, faculty, and/or staff on computer technologies.

  • Provide technical support for research and development initiatives and for the implementation of new technologies.

  • Follow proper procedures related to secure computing, account maintenance, and purchasing.

  • Write structured programs, as appropriate, using technologically current programming languages.

  • Analyze current and proposed departmental/user hardware and software systems; develop and maintain complex systems for the various constituencies within the unit.

  • Review, evaluate, and recommend solutions for hardware and software acquisitions.

  • Maintain accurate documentation to support these efforts.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, Associate's Degree Preferred.
  • At least 3 years of professional-level 3 helpdesk experience is required.
  • Expert-level ability to troubleshoot and support the most common business applications (Acrobat Pro, Java Runtime Environments, MS browsers, MS Office 0365, Safari, and Chrome) is required.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,000 - $52,000 annually depending upon experience. This is an Exempt level, benefited position that will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
