Job Details
Reporting to the Executive Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement, the director assists with visioning and strategic planning with a strong focus on building, fostering and enhancing relationships with alumni and parents to advance the mission and goals of the office. The director supervises the alumni staff and serves as an operations manager for the team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with the Executive Director to engage in creative and strategic planning to build vision and goals for the office, focusing on engaging constituents as well as revenue generation
- Develop meaningful, creative programming that engages alumni with the university and each other
- Supervise alumni staff
- Work closely with annual giving and development officers on fundraising initiatives, championing a culture of philanthropy and ensuring a pipeline of financial support
- Plan and host annual Homecoming event for the university
- Manage the Alumni Board, providing support and ensuring the fulfillment of member responsibilities
- Plan and implement regional events, partnering with Alumni Board representatives who serve as hosts
- Manage volunteer opportunities and provide direction to volunteers
- Help maintain the alumni and donor database, ensuring accurate, efficient data collection and entry
- Plan, coordinate and travel to nationwide events that engage alumni, parents, friends and corporate partners/prospects
- Coordinate external communication to constituents, working with Athletics, Marketing and other departments
- Establish effective partnerships with faculty and staff
ROUTINE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops strong, positive relationships within the University community and among external constituencies
- Keeps current with best practices
- Monitors budgets
- Attends events, board meetings and other functions as needed
- Travel as a representative of the alumni office
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred
Required Skills- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to interface with people from all backgrounds
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team with a wide variety of University constituencies
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on a college or university campus, with progressively responsible leadership and supervisory experience
- Strategic thinker who is also detail and goal oriented
- Proven ability to build relationships and work as a team
- Ability to meet deadlines, to work independently and under pressure, and handle several projects simultaneously
- Experience developing programs
- Experience working with volunteers
- High energy level, self-motivated
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and the expression of these values in building community
