Job description


The Accountant is responsible for all aspects of Accounts Payable, various account reconciliations, journal entries, vendor statement analysis, account receivable, bank reconciliations, monthly billings and follow-up.

Examples of Duties

  • Provides oversight of all aspects of the Account Payable process including communication and coordination of efforts with purchasing staff and department budget managers.
  • Completes Accounts Payable invoice verification.
  • Supervises Accounts Payable clerical staff.
  • Completes journal entries related to Accounts Payable.
  • Manages all non-student billings.
  • Processes all non-student checks that are received by the College.
  • Completes all aspects of accounting for the college Agency Funds including but not limited to student activities.
  • Completes account reconciliations, as assigned.
  • Assists in the preparation of the College’s annual financial statements and assists the external auditors as needed.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience applicable experience required. Accounting experience in educational setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with automated accounting system
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners in large and small settings.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.
