The successful candidate will be an equity-minded professional committed to closing achievement gaps and further committed to collaboration with faculty, classified professional staff, administration, students and members of the greater community towards student success.Assignment:
This is a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track position that begins in Fall 2021. Instructional assignments may include day and/or evening classes, Monday thru Saturday, as needed and rotate among the Child Development faculty. It is expected that over several semesters all levels of Child Development offered at the college will be taught. This position is represented by the West Valley-Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT / AFT Local 6554).

Anticipated Hiring Range:
- $71,256 to $110,892 annually, based upon academic achievement, teaching and related experience (Academic Salary Schedule, Steps 1-9).

1.Education – Possess one of the following:
- Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/ family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND master’s degree in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies; OR
- A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Child Development/Early Childhood Education; OR
- The equivalent of the above.
2. Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.Desired Qualifications:

1. Ability to teach effectively and communicate well with students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, both in and out of the classroom.
2. Knowledge of a variety of instructional approaches, techniques, and strategies.
3. Teaching, training, and/or cultural life experiences that enable one to teach, tutor, and mentor students from diverse language, cultural, ethnic, socio economic, or educational backgrounds.
4. Ability to take an active role in working with faculty, student groups, and college support services, particularly with the Department and Division.
5. Teaching experience, preferably at the community college or university level, in any and all courses embodied in the area of Child Development/Early Childhood Education.
6. Background in Child Development/Early Childhood Education.
7. Knowledge of current California State Child Development permit/licensing regulations.Knowledge and Abilities:

Instructional duties and assignments may consist of one or more of the following:
- Provide instruction for assigned courses. This includes preparation, in-class activities, evaluation of students’ work, consultation with students outside of class (scheduling time beyond normal office hours if necessary), ensuring regular effective student contact for Distance Education courses, maintenance of currency in the subjects taught and other efforts related to the teaching of the assigned classes, and participate in the process of SLO assessment and evaluation and use the results of these assessments in the process of continuously improving student learning.
- Maintain accurate class and other records.
- Submit, when due, all necessary reports, such as attendance, grade reports, rosters, class and office schedules.
- File a syllabus for each course with the appropriate division offices.
- Post and maintain office hours each week.
- Provide each student with a current course syllabus as required by Title 5, which includes SLOs, classroom procedures, requirements and grading policies and provide a copy to the Division Office.
- Refer students to appropriate college resources.
- Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the members’ area of expertise.
- Assume institutional responsibilities, essential to the ongoing operation and effective achievement of department, division, college and district programs.
