Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA seeks a Dynamic Modeler Economist to develop and expand PWBM economic models, in particular heterogeneous agents (both households and firms) general equilibrium models and overlapping generation models with idiosyncratic risk and incomplete markets.
Job Description
Work with the team to incorporate and/or extend to the models the following aspects of economic policy: (i) Social Security; (ii) immigration; (iii) tax policy; (iv) demographics; (v) income inequality; (vi) openness of the economy; (vii) public and private debt. Implement computational-intensive tools for solving such models. Make use of government data, such as the Current Population Survey and the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, for theoretical and applied research. Work with computational and empirical methods for dynamic economics, including dynamic programming, numerical differentiation, numerical integration, minimization methods, discretization methods, global optimization and estimation parameters of dynamic models. Estimate and calibrate high-dimensional models using econometric techniques. Prepare reports and policy papers on various economic issues for use by the department and research articles for publication in economic journals. Lead and manage student workers and research associates in research projects and provide them with economic modeling and computer programming support. Work with distributions and aggregate consistency in stationary and non-stationary environments. Incorporate policy instruments and analyze impact on the fiscal policy and the macroeconomy. Work with MATLAB and programming languages, and STATA and Python to perform empirical analysis.
Requirements:
Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, in Economics. 2 years of experience at a research institution. 2 years of experience (i) working with heterogeneous agents general equilibrium models and overlapping generations models with idiosyncratic risk and incomplete markets; (ii) working with distributions and aggregate consistency in stationary and non-stationary environments; (iii) incorporating policy instruments and analyzing impact to fiscal policy and the macroeconomy; (iv) working with computational and empirical methods for dynamic economics, including numerical dynamic programming, numerical differentiation, numerical integration, minimization methods, discretization methods, global optimization and estimation of parameters of dynamic models; (v) working with MATLAB and programming languages; and (vi) working with STATA and Python to perform empirical analysis. Occasional travel for meetings and conferences.
