Job Description:

The Graphic Design program at the Department of the Arts is requesting a full-time tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Design Theory to begin Fall 2021.

The successful applicant will be required to teach six courses per academic year (three courses per semester). The candidate will teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate courses in design history and theory, and special topics within the applicant's expertise. The candidate will actively develop design history and theory courses focusing on the Arab world and the region. The position also carries administrative responsibilities at the department, school, and university levels.


Requirements:

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD. in design theory or an appropriately relevant field and have excellent qualifications, substantiated by a habilitation or equivalent academic achievement. At least five to seven years of successful teaching experience at the university level is strongly preferred. Experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration is essential. Applicants should display evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills also.

The successful candidate will teach all levels of design every academic year and develop courses and high-quality research on the role of design in a cultural context. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of design history, theory, and criticism.
