Position Description:
The Senior Associate Athletic Director, Communications provides department management and strategic long- and short-term planning for all communications involving the UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA). The incumbent will provide a consistent, strategic voice for the department. This position serves as the lead media contact for the department, fielding inquiries and managing crisis communications while overseeing the athletic communication department, which includes sports information, social media and creative content and digital media. This position will act as the Department's main liaison to the Pac-12 Conference communications team and serves as the point of contact with University executives, including the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics as well as the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors, on athletics communications matters. A successful individual also will advise the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Head Football Coach, Head Basketball Coaches and other key department personnel on all forms of communication (social, digital, traditional) as well as messaging and public relations matters, as needed. This position will work closely with the department's External staff, including marketing, development, ticket sales and corporate partners, to coordinate, streamline, and enhance communication efforts in those areas. Moreover, this position will report to and work closely with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and other senior level staff to ensure consistency of messaging and long-term strategic planning, with a significant focus on brand enhancement and outward facing items.
