Advertised Job Summary:

The South Carolina Honors College is seeking a positive and energetic person with excellent communication and organizational skills to join our team. Under general supervision from the Student Services Coordinator, the Student Services Administrative Assistant is an essential member of the South Carolina Honors College (SCHC) support staff who plans, coordinates and performs administrative and support services while providing exceptional customer service to our students, parents, visitors and other offices on campus. As a staff member in the Honors College you will be part of a dynamic, driven and passionate community dedicated to serving high achieving students. We are invested in learning, in and out of the classroom, which is why we’re ranked consistently as one of the top honors colleges in the country.

Duties include managing the busy Student Services office in the Honors College, assisting with student registration and overrides; course database management; creating and maintaining confidential student records (paper and electronic); assisting with Summer Orientation; and, managing the room reservation process and calendar. Supports other student services activities of the dean’s office as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of work experience that is directly related to the area of employment, or high school diploma and 8 years work experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference given to those with experience in student services in a higher education setting, and with knowledge of Banner and Self Service Carolina.


The successful candidate will be well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to deal diplomatically with various constituent groups and be proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
