Job Details

Under the overall supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Adult Ed and Workforce Development, assists in recruitment, assessment, training, job placement and post-employment follow-up in order to meet contracted program enrollment, placement and retention goals for grant-funded non-credit job training program; provides case management services to participants enrolled into programs; and maintains accurate attendance and other records required by funding agencies. This is a grant-funded position.

Responsible for meeting or exceeding job placement goals as established by the grant funder.Responsible for recruitment, assessment, interviewing, evaluation and determining job readiness of participants.Maintains accurate attendance records.Maintains a file for each participant that includes documentation of employment status at time of enrollment, the required registration form, a record of training services provided, case management notes, and documentation for new employment.Maintains a database of participant demographic, progression, and employment information as required for status reporting.Provides all data required to complete reports to the grant funder.Works with participants to develop a career plan with pathways to future advancement.Maintains constant contact with participants.Advises participants as necessary to resolve issues which may be barriers to course completion and employment.Assists participants in writing resumes.Facilitates a wide variety of work ethic, soft skills, and employment related training opportunities for participants.Works with Assistant Project Coordinator, grant partners and area employers in the recruitment, training and placement of participants.Aligns program recruitment, retention and placement efforts with other workforce development and transition to college initiatives of the Division of Business and Community Services.Performs other related duties as assigned.Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; excellent interpersonal skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; good verbal and written communication skills; experienced team player with the ability to also work independently; knowledge of the basic work skills required by employers; understanding of the barriers faced by a low income population; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

PREFERRED: Minimum two (2) years of experience and/or training involving career counseling, recruitment, or counseling. Demonstrated outcomes in program recruitment and/or job placement. Bi-lingual Spanish preferred. Prior experience in or understanding of Hampden County workforce development system. Prior experience facilitating workshops on essential skills (work readiness skills) such as Professionalism, Respect for Diversity, Teamwork, etc.). Documented experience with job placement in an outcomes-based program.

MCCC Unit Position

Hours: 18.5 hours/week; 20 paid weeks, February, 2021 through June 30, 2021

Enrollment

Located in Western Massachusetts' scenic Pioneer Valley, HCC draws students from more than 70 cities and towns throughout the region and from beyond. As a gateway to quality, accessible education and career advancement, more than 100,000 students have come through the doors seeking to realize their dreams and aspirations. HCC boasts the largest enrollment and awards the highest number of associate degrees and certificates among Western Massachusetts community colleges. At the college's 65th commencement in May 2012,a total of 1,000 students received approximately 1,026 associate degrees and certificates. Programs

HCC offers more than 100 associate degree and certificate options, as well as adult basic education/GED programs, education and training for business and industry, and noncredit community service personal and professional enrichment courses. Academic programs, in a variety of disciplines, are designed for immediate career entry or for transfer to four-year institutions. Plus, for those seeking additional intellectual challenge in their coursework, HCC is known for its exceptional learning communities (team-taught interdisciplinary courses organized around a common theme) and its Commonwealth Honors program, among other programs and services.

Transfer

HCC has the highest transfer rate of any community college statewide, holding articulation agreements with more than 27 colleges and universities. Many students attend HCC with the intention of transferring to a four-year college or university. And many do so after graduating-often with generous and even full scholarships-to public and private four-year colleges and universities across the country. Locally, HCC is the largest feeder institution for Westfield State College and UMASS Amherst.

Immediate career entry

HCC offers short-term certificates and training for students whose goal is immediate career entry. HCC's Career Center provides additional assistance in helping students obtain employment in the region's many workplaces.
