Working Hours:

Working hours for this position consist of hours not to exceed 29 hours per week. Dates and times will vary based on the Career Training Program schedule and needs of the program. Hours for this teaching position is Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Specific work hours are based on course schedule to be assigned by the supervisor and agreed upon by the employee prior to the onset of employment.


The Business Math Instructor reports to the Director of Career Training, Community Education, & Professional Development who will assign location (online/remote or face to face) and hours of the Business Math course. The Business Math Instructor works closely with program students to provide instruction in basic math operations, fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, and measurements and introduces important math concepts for business and or healthcare workplace settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for teaching Business Math using provided course curriculum.
  2. Develop an instructional plan (known as a course outline or syllabus) for the course(s) and ensure that it meets college and department standards.
  3. Develops and maintains online course shell utilizing the college’s LMS (Canvas) system to deliver quality instruction to program students.
  4. Develops business math lessons (i.e. fractions, percentage, and measurements) and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students to provide math skills applicable in the business and or healthcare workplace.
  5. Develops classroom instruction materials, handouts, PowerPoint materials and other resources relevant to classroom instruction.
  6. Implements a variety of instructional delivery methods (online or face to face), that include group or individualized instruction as well as utilizes Canvas/computer programs that help students complete course content.
  7. Assess students’ progress by grading assignments, papers, and exams.
  8. Completes and maintains appropriate attendance and assessment records and ensures timely submission of student grades utilizing the college’s online grading submission system.
  9. Maintains good communications and working relationships with appropriate staff and students.
  10. Maintains good communications and works effectively with all other offices of the college on matters concerning the program.
  11. Adheres to procedures and policies for the smooth day-to-day operation of the program.
  12. Participates in teacher meetings and professional development activities as required.

Education and/or Experience:


  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. 1-2 years teaching experience

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software. In addition, they should be able to learn and utilize a variety of education software packages.
