The Assoc. Prof of English and Writing Center Director is an exciting hybrid position with primary responsibilities serving as the Writing Center Director, housed within the Academic Success Center at the United States Air Force Academy, as well as teaching undergraduate courses which may include English composition, Reading Strategies, Technical Writing, and English for Academic Purposes. Additional duties include developing and evaluating curriculum for Writing Center programs and courses, teaching cadets in these courses, and helping other cadets on an individual and/or group basis to increase their writing and communication proficiency. Coordinates and supervises Writing Center support to cadets and faculty; provides supplemental instruction in writing and reading enhancement to students; provides instructional support to the Reading Enhancement program. Teaches undergraduate courses in other academic
disciplines, as directed. Position promotes professional activities in areas of specialization and participates in course, curriculum, and discipline-appropriate professional development. Provides leadership for and promotes innovation, synergy, and integration across Writing Center operations, future communication initiatives, and other Academic Success Center programs.

The position will direct the USAFA Writing Center operations in support of the Academic Success Center; train and mentor faculty and staff, oversee Writing Center operations including outreach with departments and WAC initiatives, assess program success, and plan future direction of the USAFA Writing Center.

An ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with Writing Program Administration or university wide writing programs.

• Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the college level for at least 5 years.

• Experience working with ESL, international students, or experience working in international settings is desired.

• Demonstrated record of building cooperation and collaboration across students and faculty. The Director must plan and implement writing support focused events and initiatives for students and faculty.

• Evidence of recent publications and presentations in professional venues that demonstrate an ongoing scholarly and/or creative agenda.

• Demonstrated contributions to Writing Across the Curriculum.

• Supervisory experience

• Writing Center assessment experience
