Physical Requirements:Lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50lbs., working outside in the field during the summer months.
Shift:Flexible shifts that will vary by the lab you work in.
Job Summary:The successful applicant will be part of a research team collecting data on early spring flowering weeds present on agricultural lands, and will help trap wild bees. The purpose of this study is to determine how floral resources on agricultural lands impact wild bee communities and honey bee health.
Responsibilities will include:
•Setting out traps to collect bees
•Surveying flowers on farm lands as part of a team including graduate students, faculty, and technicians from the University of Kentucky entomology department
•Flexible schedule – position is part-time, and data can only be collected on days with clear weather. Weekly schedule will be subject to change
•Ability and willingness to walk for several hours a day collecting data
•Ability to learn how to match flowers to photos and count blossoms
•Ability to read and fill out data table with training from research team
•Promptness, accountability, ability to follow directions and verbally communicate with team members
