Princeton University

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory seeks a full-time applied mathematician/physicist at the rank of a Staff Research Physicist, focusing on multi-scale time-integration and implicit electromagnetic simulation algorithm. This will be a collaborative activity in the Exascale Computing Project (ECP) and the SCIDAC projects.

The main duties are:

  • To develop multi-scale time-integration methods that can prolong a gyro-kinetic physics to a longer timescale.
  • To optimize and further develop the fully-implicit electromagnetic turbulence simulation scheme for particle-in-cell codes in toroidal geometries.
The scientist in this position will spend about 60% of the time on the algorithm development and 40% on their application and physics research.

Education and Experience:

  • Applicants should have a Ph.D. in applied mathematics with an adequate post-doctoral experience.
  • Candidates with prior experience in electromagnetic gyro-kinetic scheme, multi-scale time-integration, or particle-in-cell simulations in toroidal geometry are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of FORTRAN and/or C++ will be required to perform the described job.
  • Communication and writing skills in English as well as the ability to work in a team-work environment are required.
