Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for planning and managing all aspects of research design related to carbohydrate-protein studies. The incumbent will have responsibility for project personnel and management of related research projects, including approvals and reporting. The position serves as liaison with external research partners including collaborative institutes and granting entities. The position is accountable for research quality, management of research materials, documentation of research data, development of project reports, presenting findings to research partners and sponsors, and drafting of manuscripts, research reports, and funding proposals. The individual will lead, execute and support studies in BSL1 bio-containment.

•Supervise undergraduate students, graduate students, research technicians and postdocs in the performance of their respective duties. Review the work and reports generated by the technician and postdocs and make corrections and recommendations. These reports are issued to external customers of the Analytical Service lab.
•Optimize analytical protocols for the BLI instrument and developing robust methods for analysis and maintenance of BLI instrument.
•Train incoming employees and graduate students from CCRC, other colleges/departments of UGA and other universities on analytical protocols, data analysis, and use of various analytical instruments.
•Responsible for waste management of analytical service laboratory.
•Laboratory management-making sure chemicals are ordered and good lab practice on chemicals inventory.
•Perform structural characterization of carbohydrates using BLI and FPLC.
•Maintenance of FPLC. Train scientific staff on use of FPLC.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

• Familiarity with BLI instruments, Red96 and Red384.
• Capable of designing, performing, and analyzing BLI experiments and data.
• Expert knowledge carbohydrate/protein interactions.
• Predicting, designing, and analyzing experiments and plans.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Project management: Interface with corporate and other external partners along with UGA administration to manage grants and contracts. This will include study design, reagent sharing and management, and research reporting under the guidance of the PI. The individual will also be responsible for development and maintenance of laboratory standard operating procedures, biosafety protocols, animal protocols (as needed) and other documentation needed for completion of projects. The individual may also need to coordinate ordering laboratory supplies and coordinate use of research space.
