Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Transfer Admissions Counselor position is responsible for marketing Boise State to prospective students, with a special focus on on transfer students.

The Transfer Admissions Counselor:

  • is the primary point of contact for prospective transfer students living outside the Treasure Valley.
  • designs, coordinates, and implements on-campus and off-campus transfer student events.
  • provides high quality customer service from point of contact to enrollment.
  • must have extensive knowledge of university processes, programs and policies, as well as a positive attitude and commitment to higher education.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

50% of the Time: Provide initial admission advising to prospective transfer students, individually or in groups, about university policies, programs of study and degree options. Utilize academic background, current enrollment, and courses planned in order to effectively guide students through the transfer student process. Present students with information about alternatives and possible consequences of academic decisions. Work closely with Boise State advising and academic offices in order to connect students with academic support. In addition, provide accurate information regarding admission and transfer credit policies, academic programs and degrees, career and special services, financial aid and scholarships, university housing, and other opportunities available at Boise State.

25% of the Time: Concentrate on recruitment efforts at community colleges situated outside the Treasure Valley. The initiatives might include transfer fairs, the BroncoConnect program, community and educational agencies, and special events. Use transfer student enrollment information to make data informed decisions in order to best serve students.

15% of the Time: Create, coordinate, and implement on-campus and off-campus recruitment events specialized to meet the needs of transfer students. Ensure event details such as: marketing, room reservations and setup, catering, and presenter scheduling are complete. These programs will require significant collaboration with Boise State departments.

10% of the Time: Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Boise State colleagues and key external partners including: Boise State Enrollment Service Offices, Extended Studies, Boise State Academic Advising Offices, community college transfer center coordinators and academic advisors, community college administrative staff, and professional educators.

  • Public speaking, interviewing and counseling skills
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel, make own travel arrangements, navigate in new cities
  • Capacity to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Customer service, diplomacy, marketing
  • Ability to initiate, plan, and execute event programming
  • Ability to understand, explain and make decisions based on admissions standards
  • Autonomous decision-making
  • Ability to work a significant amount of time during evening hours, and weekends
  • Interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with college students in an academic or admissions counseling capacity
  • Bilingual/Bicultural (Spanish)

Salary starts at $43,700 depending on experience.
