This position, in the College of Arts and Sciences, provides leadership for the development, recommendation, and implementation of strategies and policies for academic planning, program assessment, and advising coordination. This position also provides oversight for academic advising and student support initiatives throughout the college.

**This position may include some evenings/weekends as business needs dictate including career fairs and orientation-type activities

Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls with a focus on policy and strategy implementation. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets and requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area.

60% of the Time the Director, Center for Advising and Student Success must:

• Provide leadership in designing the academic advising model and implementing advising services for students with the ultimate goal of enhancing student satisfaction, timely progress toward the degree, and overall student success.
• Direct division participation in and ensure compliance with advising-related activities negotiated between the division and the Academic Support Center (e.g., regular assessment of advising activities, management, dissemination, and action on student success reports.) In collaboration with campus-wide programs (including Bronco Welcome, Discover Boise State, and other NSP activities), provide academic advising services to prospective students regarding degree programs and university and general education requirements.
• Take a leadership role in the overall documentation and implementation of student orientation, enrollment, active student, eligible to enroll but not enrolled, and degree progress tracking and assist in developing best practices for tracking timelines, documentation methods, and troubleshooting.
• Responsible for effective hiring, supervision, and evaluation of staff. This includes professional development, coaching, and mentorship opportunities for staff.
• Provide academic advising to students focusing on: advising of departmental, college, and university policies and procedures, and providing information on degree programs and creation of academic plans. Providing one-on-one support for students through Academic Coaching sessions.
• Make suggestions for improvements to college administration regarding advising process, policies and practices.
• Develop and monitor operations budget in collaboration with the Dean’s Office.

35% of the Time the Director, Center for Advising and Student Success must:

• Manage and implement programmatic goals for the undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies Program.
• Set strategic goals for CASS with the COAS Dean’s Office. Creating/collaborating on larger-scale student success projects for the college (i.e., Bronco Gap Year, potential for peer advising, advising training for faculty and staff, intervention/engagement opportunities, etc.)
• Collaborate with college leadership in the design of an interdisciplinary, enriched curriculum for the College that facilitates progressive intellectual development of COAS students
• Responsible for supporting the implementation of COAS strategic initiatives via the professional advising staff.
• Assess effectiveness of programs and services in the context of current learning outcomes within the unit, campus climate, the University’s strategic plan and retention efforts.
• Develop and maintain special projects and college-owned academic programs as requested by the COAS Leadership Team.

5% Duties as Assigned

• Demonstrated experience advising and mentoring university students.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex academic requirements and policies.
• Ability to conduct program assessment and evaluation.

• Ability to lead and coach staff.
• Knowledge of efficient and collaborative learning strategies.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, administrators as well as external agencies/groups and the public.
• Experience working with students from diverse and/or underrepresented backgrounds
• Strong commitment to professional excellence and continuous improvement of programs, processes, and services.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 5 years relevant experience including 1 year managerial experience

• Master's Degree in a related field strongly preferred.
• 2-4 years of managerial or supervisory work preferred.
• Experience working in higher-education preferred.
• Formal teaching experience; supporting student learning through effective course design, instruction, and assessment preferred.

Salary ranges from $65,000.00 - $72,000.00 depending on experience.
