The Vice Provost provides campus-wide leadership concerning the development of student academic success, and programs that lead to demonstrable improvement in persistence, retention, and graduation rates. This position is responsible for implementing effective undergraduate advising, programs for at-risk and undecided students, college transition programs, faculty development initiatives, and other programmatic activities that improve student retention and success. The Vice Provost provides high-level accountability for management of resources with oversight of an administrative office, a number of program and center directors, and a series of student intervention programs on campus. The Vice Provost is a key collaborator in the development of learning communities and experiential learning experiences, and also serves as lead or co-lead for Missouri S&T's Higher Learning Commission accreditation/re-accreditation efforts. One of the nation's leading research universities, Missouri S&T is a public university with two academic colleges: The College of Engineering and Computing and the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business. The position of Vice Provost of Academic Support at Missouri S&T requires excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to interact and advocate in a collegial manner with faculty, staff, students and other on- and off-campus constituents. An earned doctorate in a discipline represented at Missouri S&T is required, as is the rank of tenured full professor (or be qualified for appointment to the rank of full professor at the time of assuming the position). Candidates must be able to show their experience improving retention and graduation rates, enhancing learning environments, and promoting student academic success. Strong leadership abilities are critical, especially the ability to work across university divisions in developing teams, building consensus, and setting and achieving goals. Experience managing personnel, budgets, and administrative functions is required. Knowledge of and experience with academic department operations and academic accreditation is required.
