Job Summary

The AU/UGA Medical Partnership is looking for a dynamic, innovative academic medical educator with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to join the leadership team of the three-year categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program in Athens, GA as an Assistant Program Director.  This position will offer enormous possibilities for developing and enhancing skills, leadership ability, and personal growth.  The Assistant Program Director will assist the Program Director in the administration and operations of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, with a focus on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, and will have both clinical responsibilities as well as scholarly responsibilities in addition to the administrative responsibilities.  The individual in this position will also be responsible for supervision and teaching of residents in the outpatient practice.  The position is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor to commensurate with experience.

 

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

Implement and manage the development and execution of a comprehensive quality improvement curricula including didactics, supervising resident projects, and M&M/QI conference.

May participate in supervising the Chief Resident in his/her activities such as Morning Report and scheduling Academic Half-Day.

 

Participate in recruitment of residents including reviewing applications and interviews.

Participate in areas such as Research, Mentoring and Advising, Resident Wellness, and/or rotation development.

 

Oversee resident appointment and participation with various hospital committees.

Collaborate with data analyst to derive resident specific performance metrics.

Distribute performance metrics to residents and supervise improvement plans derived from these metrics.

 

Participate in the clinical practice of the Ambulatory/Outpatient Residency Practice including supervising residents in the ambulatory practice.

Participate in scholarly activities including publishing and disseminating new and original work in peer-reviewed venues and mentoring residents to publish and disseminate their work in peer-reviewed venues including conferences.

 

Minimum Requirements

MD or DO degree

Board Certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties

Able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia

Able to obtain appropriate hospital credentials and privileges

Able to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license

 

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of the IHI "Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety" preferred but not mandatory

 

Shift/Salary

Academic Rank and Salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
