Nature of Work:

Assist the Office of Student Life, specifically Mariner Recreation, with the administration of student services and events.

This position is a Student Assistant position within the Office of Student Life which allows students a maximum 19.5 hours per week. The position, which reports to the Director of Student Activities, requires student assistants to work with students, faculty and staff on a regular basis. Students are trained to work in the Student Fitness Center (FC), as officials for intramural games and activities sponsored by the Office of Student Life, and the CCGA Challenge Course. The schedule will be assigned in conjunction with the student’s class schedule and is subject to change between semesters or as needed. Students are not to work during scheduled class time, even if class is cancelled or dismissed.

Essential Duties:

  • Serve as representative of the College, Department of Student Affairs and Office of Student Life
  • Dress for work in a neat and clean manner
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor
  • Work as a team with other Student Assistants to maintain a seamless experience for participants/patrons
  • Enforce FC policies and complete an incident report for any issues that arise by patrons
  • Ensure all patrons sign a “Release Liability Waiver” before they are allowed to utilize any of the equipment or facilities;
  • Provide weight room orientations to all new patrons
  • Ensure that all equipment is sanitized regularly and properly stored
  • Follow all opening and closing tasks to ensure the facility is ready for patron use and equipment is secure
  • Serve as first point of contact for Intramural games and activities
  • Assist/oversee the set-up of games and activities
  • Maintain a strong and respectful presence on the area of play to ensure that participants have safe and fun time
  • Address inappropriate behavior in a professional manner and document accordingly
  • Respond to emergency situations (e.g. injury, altercation) in a calm and confident manner by following the provided emergency procedures and documenting accordingly
  • Understand rules for each activity and how to communicate them to participants
  • Other duties as trained/assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Training:

  • Must be enrolled in six credit hours
  • Must possess strong customer service and communication skills
  • Must remain in good standing with the College
  • Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average or higher
  • Must have knowledge of general fitness equipment and athletics

Preferred Qualifications and Training:

  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    Demonstrates ability to manage students, facilities and events
  • Demonstrates ability to handle new situations or tasks and to adapt or learn quickly
  • CPR/AED Certified
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
