Essential Job Duties:

The educational technologist will assist with course set-up, course production tasks, and technology support throughout the course development period. This position supports faculty, staff and adult learners with the effective use of instructional technology and the development of online modules in a learning management system. This position will build out already developed curricula from faculty into an online learning management system (iSpring) and will manage the learning management system side from the back end as well as building the modules out. This will require the individual to plan out the development of the module, work with faculty to deliver the materials as they envision and provide support for the enhancement of the materials to provide the best experience for the learner. In addition, the individual will need to learn the back-end of iSpring to understand how to enroll students, trouble shoot any issues that arise from the learner or content expert’s side and be able to quickly resolve any of these issues as they arise.

Other Work/Responsibilities:

Training and Preparation: Proficient with learning management systems (iSpring, SAKAI, Canvas) and ability to quickly and effectively learn the iSpring Learning Management System and other learning tools such as Zoom, Audacity, the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.
Course Content Development: Consult with content experts and Instructional Design Consultant to develop meaningful online instructional content in alignment with course objectives and outcomes. Build exercises, activities and other course content as assigned within iSpring. Expect this individual to be able to think from the learners perspective to create a meaningful learning experience.
Technical Support: Work in partnership with Instructional Design Consultant to assist instructors with technical issues.
Operational Procedures: Ability to manage multiple projects. Create and maintain project documentation; including project timelines, in the teams online storage (TEAMS and iSpring LMS). Maintain course resources in shared cloud storage used by the grant team. Report to the team’s PI/PD and Project Manager who will assign work responsibilities and track progress, along with providing guidance and resources for you to complete your work.
Team Work: Ability to work with the grant team, instructional design consultant and content experts to provide training or technical assistance in the creation of their modules and address any issues they may have related to their module development.

Minimum Experience/Education:

Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline with coursework in curriculum development or learning theory (Master’s degree preferred).
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Two years of experience in instructional material design (preferably higher education).

Department Required Skills:

Familiarity with online course development using learning management systems (preferably iSpring or SAKAI) and content development tools.
Competency in using HTML and CSS.
Some knowledge of design, implementation, and evaluation of distance-based instructional
Able to follow direction and manage multiple projects under strict time constraints.
Able to work collaboratively with instructional design consultant to create high-quality online content.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills, both verbal and written

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

Familiarity with adult learning theories and best practices (specifically in online education).
Experience building course content in an online learning management system (Sakai or iSpring, preferable)
Experience implementing universal design principles, active learning techniques, and other tested instructional design theories and approaches.
Familiarity with the concept of digital accessibility
Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
