The Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI) has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Information Systems Administrator position.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level. Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.

Department Summary:
The CCTSI supports transformational clinical and translational research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and affiliated institutions. The CCTSI was created in 2008 with funding from the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) initiative of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Because research conducted using CCTSI resources spans multiple institutions, this position acts as a liaison to other Information Technology departments. The Systems Administrator will direct and facilitate informatics requests and services to the appropriate technology departments and institutions.

Job Summary:

The Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI), a clinical research institute located on the Anschutz Medical Campus, has an opening for a full-time Systems Administrator. This person will be considered a subject matter expert and will be the go-to person for the team and the director of the department. They will also be responsible for administration, monitoring, support, maintenance, updating, and management of all CCTSI Windows and Linux servers. They will be responsible for deployment, patching, and troubleshooting for both virtual and physical hardware. They will monitor and maintain all system operations to ensure optimal performance for mission critical applications. The ideal candidate will be expected to acquire a strong working knowledge of all CCTSI supported applications, so to understand and configure servers for optimal performance and problems solve issues with the applications which may involve the servers. 

We are looking for a strong team player with expertise in enterprise systems administration and have an interest in contributing to human health in an academic environment. Must have excellent communications skills, be willing to transfer knowledge, and maintain detailed documentation, must gain a complete understanding of the CCTSI processes, and contribute ideas and solutions to a high-performing, motivated informatics team.  This position requires some evening and weekend hours and reports to the Director of the CCTSI Informatics Services team.

Examples of Work Performed:

    Deploy, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux serversConfigure servers for specific applications for optimal performance and ensure reliability and to facilitate, support and work with technicians in trouble shooting CCTSI applicationsDeploy, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot ESXi servers, Virtual Center servers, and Windows and Linux virtual machines using VMware 6.xWork with cyber security to monitor and maintain security updates and patches on the CCTSI IT infrastructure as well as all Windows and Linux serversPrepare and maintain documentation and creation of figures of system configuration and layoutsIndependently implement, maintain and monitor nightly backupsWork with security officer to identify security vulnerabilities and independently determine and implement solutions to mitigate issues found in vulnerability scansWork with security officer to monitor event logs for data privacy and security regulatory complianceMaintain critical third party software and independently manage working relationships with outside vendors as neededContribute to the design and optimization of CCTSI Informatics workflowsProvide information to management about the hardware and software required to provide appropriate levels of systems and servicesOff-shift work that includes evenings, weekends and on-call support (outage resolution)

Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $67,254 - $85,547The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

    A bachelor's degree in Information Systems Management, Computer Science or a related fieldAt least five (5) years’ proven experience working as a Systems Administrator with proven results in a similar positionSpecific experience with:Managing Windows systems, including Windows Server 2012/2012R2/2016/2019 Linux operating systems, including configurations and optimizationsVirtual infrastructure (i.e.VMWare vSphere 6.x)Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including figure diagrams
Conditions of Employment:

    Must be willing and able to lift 15 poundsOff-shift work that includes evenings, weekends and on-call support (outage resolution)
Preferred Qualifications:

    At least seven (7) years’ experience working as a Systems Administrator with proven results in an independent responsibility for a server farm.Specific experience with:Linux operating systems, CentOS preferredManaging Windows systems, including Windows Server 2008/2012/2012 R2/2016Virtual infrastructure (i.e.VMWare vSphere 6.x)Server (ESXi) - SAN infrastructure and the ability to configure this environmentHardware including ESXi hosts, switches and fiber SAN connectionConfiguring, monitoring and optimizing a SANDeveloping best practices for maintaining servers standard to sustain a high availability of systemsInstalling, configuring and working with MS SQL server softwareMS Sharepoint serverVMWare vROPS, Log Insight and SCOM
Competencies:

    Good working knowledge of Veritas Backup Exec and MS Data Protection Manager
