The Project Manager for Cancer Prevention and Control will provide research support for the Cancer Prevention and Control Program (CPC). One of nine scientific research programs at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, the CPC Program’s goal is to sustain a nationally recognized program of innovative research by developing, rigorously testing, and disseminating evidence-based interventions and policy approaches that can prevent cancer and improve cancer outcomes in North Carolina and beyond. It is the second largest program of the Cancer Center with 56 faculty members.
The Project Manager will support high priority research initiatives of the CPC program; and will support CPC faculty members’ professional development, networking, grant applications, and research projects. Typically, the position’s time will be allocated equally between providing support to CPC faculty members, UNC’s Military Health & Readiness Public Health Partnership, general grant administration, as well as supervision and program planning. The position will work closely with a variety of offices across the School of Public Health, the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as with the Fort Bragg and Cumberland County Public Health Departments. Grant administration duties include the collection and synthesis of CPC member activities for Lineberger annual reports and grant project management for high-priority submissions. In support of CPC events, the position must also coordinate multi-institutional research symposia among CPC partners and support planning for the UNC Digital Health Showcase. The position requires substantial independence, strong organizational skills, and experience working on research teams. The ideal candidate will have expertise in community outreach, as well as research design and implementation of research procedures
Completion of a master’s level or higher degree (e.g., public health, social science) with a minimum two years of work experience.Qualifications and Experience:
Experience with health behavior, behavioral science, or tobacco control is desirable. Experience conducting community outreach and managing research studies and is highly desirable. An interest in health promotion initiatives among military populations is highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with prior research experience, or who have experience working with the United States military or military populations. This position requires a substantial capacity to work independently in a complex research environment. The candidate must possess excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and must possess the ability to work in teams and independently. The candidate must be attentive to detail, organized, and able to seek advice when project concerns arise.
