Position Summary:

The University of North Carolina has enjoyed a long-standing place among leaders in higher education since it was chartered in 1789 and opened its doors for students in 1795 as the nation’s first public university. Situated in the beautiful college town of Chapel Hill, NC, Carolina has earned a reputation as one of the best universities in the world. Carolina prides itself on a strong, diverse student body, academic opportunities not found anywhere else, and a value unmatched by any public university in the nation.

Carolina Development is proud of its donor-centered philosophy, pursuing activities that always respect the interests and intentions of the donor as well as the University. The organization’s collaborative nature is a critical component to fulfilling our mission of raising private funds to benefit the university.

The Office of University Development provides fundraising and operational services to all schools and units across campus. To address one of the needs of our campus partners, we must expand the breadth of our donor relations and stewardship activities. We have begun the process to create unified endowment reports and would like to further assure that every donor to Carolina receives an equal minimum level of stewardship no matter the resources available in each unit. With this in mind, the Donor Relations Officer is responsible for working with the schools and units across campus to create and implement comprehensive donor relations and stewardship programs that appropriately and consistently promotes interaction with and recognition of donors at all levels. Reporting to the Executive Director of Donor Relations and Revenue Management, the Donor Relations Officer will oversee donor stewardship activities and events, and draft written materials to aid in the school/unit efforts to educate, cultivate, and recognize donors.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree

Qualifications and Experience:

A minimum of three to five years of experience, preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization), in development, donor relations/stewardship or a related field is required. Previous experience interacting with donors is highly desirable as well as exceptional written and oral communication skills. An employment history highlighted by increasing levels of responsibility and a demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity and good judgment in dealing with staff and the public. Ability to work effectively with development colleagues and University leadership. Strong interpersonal and written communications skills with demonstrated attention to detail and ability to relate individuals at varying levels internally and externally. Ability to use discretion in working with confidential and sensitive data. High level of initiative and ability to work independently. A strong drive to be successful. A high energy level and the capacity to handle a heavy work load. Integrity. Sincerity.

Equal Opportunity Employer :

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran.
